ONE STAR REVIEWS

All of the text written and "taped" to these landscapes are trompe l'oeil elements (a term meaning "trick the eye"), and crucially, the text itself is taken from actual one-star reviews left about the national park or landscape pictured. I find them via Yelp or Googlemaps, and find what I would deem a 'disturbing abundance' of negative opinions, shouted into the void of the internet. I choose the reviews that display a profound dissonance between the hiker/visitor and the landscape to which they have stood before and experienced. By mocking their disappointment I aim to alter our own expectations of what a trip into nature can, should, or is able to, provide.

Additionally, when possible, the trompe l'oeil element is modeled after a piece of paper/cardboard/litter found on site.
